Walt Disney World Railroad, Heritage railroad in Magic Kingdom Park, Florida, US
The Walt Disney World Railroad is a heritage railway in Magic Kingdom Park, Florida, operating four restored steam locomotives on a 1.5-mile (2.4-kilometer) loop around the park grounds. The line connects three stations and lets visitors move between different park areas or simply enjoy a relaxing ride around the entire circuit.
The railway acquired its locomotives from Ferrocarriles Unidos de Yucatán in Mexico, and Roger Broggie led their restoration ahead of the 1971 park opening. The steam engines originally date from the 1910s and 1920s and were technically adapted for park service.
The four steam locomotives carry names honoring key figures from the company's history, linking railroad nostalgia with the park's storytelling tradition. As the train rolls along, passengers pass through different themed landscapes and get a view across the various sections of the kingdom.
Passengers can board or exit at three stations across Magic Kingdom: Main Street USA, Frontierland, and Fantasyland. Trains depart regularly every 20 minutes or so, and the ride takes roughly a quarter of an hour for the full loop.
Each locomotive consumes roughly 200 gallons (757 liters) of water and 25 gallons (95 liters) of fuel per hour as it carries visitors through the different themed sections of the park. The fleet also includes vintage passenger cars that came from the same Mexican railway line and were restored as well.
