Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Interactive space-themed ride in Tomorrowland, Hong Kong.
Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin was an interactive ride in Tomorrowland where guests boarded rotating vehicles and fired laser guns at targets. The route passed through several rooms filled with space scenery and characters from the film.
The ride opened with the park and welcomed guests until September 2017, when it closed permanently. A new area dedicated to a different film universe took its place afterward.
Guests step into the role of space cadets and join the character from Toy Story in a mission against the villain. The setup draws on familiar story elements from the films and lets riders feel part of that adventure.
Each vehicle seats up to three people and comes with two laser cannons that can be operated independently. The full ride lasts around four and a half minutes from start to finish.
The vehicles could spin around their axis during the ride, making it easier for passengers to aim at targets placed on the sides. This technology came from older transport systems in theme parks and was combined here with game elements from fairground booths.
