Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, Transport system in Magic Kingdom, US
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is an elevated rail system that carries visitors along a fixed track through different zones of Tomorrowland. The ride passes by Space Mountain and other attractions while moving through both covered and open sections.
The system opened in 1975 as WEDway PeopleMover and used linear induction motors for propulsion. This technology set it apart from the earlier version at Disneyland, which relied on rubber tires.
The system shows Walt Disney's ideas about how cities could work better through efficient movement. It demonstrates a way of thinking about public transportation that prioritizes smooth flow over crowded streets.
Visitors can board from a central station in Tomorrowland where vehicles continuously move through the station. The entire journey takes roughly 10 minutes as you travel through both shaded and sunlit stretches.
An automated voice called ORAC-5 provides narration during the ride, explaining the different areas you pass. This running commentary offers details about the attractions below the track as you travel.
