William Randolph Hearst Memorial State Beach

The protected cove features an 850-foot pier, white sand beach, and clear waters along California Highway 1 next to Hearst Castle Visitor Center.

In the 1850s, Portuguese settlers established a whaling village at this location, successfully hunting 370 whales before relocating due to severe drought.

The beach stands as a testament to the Hearst family legacy, who owned the surrounding lands and donated this section for public recreational use.

The beach includes 24 picnic areas, 150 parking spaces, restrooms, barbecue grills, and allows fishing from the pier without requiring a license.

The Coastal Discovery Center at the beach entrance provides exhibits about marine life and collaborates with Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
