The beach became part of Los Padres National Forest through federal conservation efforts to protect California's coastal natural resources in the twentieth century.
Local beachcombers gather at low tide during winter months to search for sand dollars and jade stones that wash up on the shore.
Visitors access the beach via wooden stairs from the parking area, with restrooms and picnic facilities available at the day-use area.
The location offers one of the few surfing spots in Big Sur, where waves break consistently against the backdrop of coastal cliffs.
