Mount Shasta Ski Park, Winter sports resort in Mount Shasta, California, US
Mount Shasta Ski Park is a ski resort spread across more than 600 acres with over 40 runs designed for different skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers. The facility operates six chairlifts, including a quad lift on Grey Butte, to serve its varied terrain.
The resort opened in December 1985 after the original Mount Shasta Ski Bowl closed following an avalanche that destroyed its main chairlift in 1978. Local community interest in returning skiing to the mountain led to the development of this new facility.
The resort hosts seasonal competitions such as the Coyote Classic races and the spring Pond Skim event, where skiers navigate across water features for fun and local pride.
The mountain offers runs at different difficulty levels, so it helps to know in advance which slopes match your skill before you arrive. Many visitors come on weekends, so visiting on weekdays tends to be less crowded.
The resort sits on volcanic buttes at the southern base of Mount Shasta, giving it a special geological setting found nowhere else nearby. The longest run descends approximately 1.1 miles down the mountainside, offering skiers an extended ride in one go.
