Pacific City, census-designated place in Tillamook County, Oregon, USA
Pacific City is a coastal community in Tillamook County known for its wide sandy beach and views of Haystack Rock. The settlement spans just under 4 square miles and is home to just over a thousand residents, many working in fishing and tourism.
The region was settled by early pioneers after major forest fires in 1845 cleared the land. In the late 1800s the community grew as a fishing village, with a salmon cannery boosting the local economy.
Pacific City took its current name in 1909 to distinguish itself from another town in Washington state. The fishing fleet that still launches from the beach remains central to local identity, with fishermen continuing methods passed down through generations.
The wide beach allows for driving, walking, or sitting comfortably to watch the waves. The area is accessible by short drives from main roads and offers nearby campgrounds and parks for various outdoor activities.
The dory fleet here is one of the few commercial boat fleets in the lower 48 states that still launches directly from the beach. This traditional method, where boats head out on the sand in the morning and return with fresh catch, has become rare in modern fishing.
