Fourth and Blanchard Building, Commercial skyscraper in Belltown, United States
The Fourth and Blanchard Building is a commercial skyscraper in Belltown that rises 25 stories with a reflective glass exterior reaching about 105 meters high. The structure houses office spaces along with parking areas, shower facilities, and a coffee shop inside.
The building was designed in 1979 by Chester L. Lindsey Architects and drew inspiration from the Pennzoil Place in Houston. This design helped establish the modern commercial look of the Belltown area during that era.
The building features public art installations, including the Red Popsicle sculpture and corner statues titled He and She by Howard Garnitz. These works shape how people experience the street and create gathering points around the structure.
The location sits in a busy neighborhood with good pedestrian access and multiple entrances on different sides of the site. Visitors can view the public art from the street and the area has nearby restaurants and shops.
The building sits where Denny Hill once stood, making it about 30 meters taller than the original hillside was before the ground was flattened. This geographic change meant the entire neighborhood had to be rebuilt from scratch.
