Day 1

Day 1 is a 37-story office tower standing 159 meters tall in Seattle's Denny Regrade neighborhood as part of the Amazon Headquarters Complex. The structure houses thousands of employees in the technology sector and was designed by architectural firm NBBJ.

The building sits on land created during the massive Denny Hill regrading project, which removed millions of cubic yards of earth between 1898 and 1930. This major earthwork reshaped the entire neighborhood's topography and created the level foundation upon which modern structures like this tower were eventually built.

The tower represents Seattle's transformation into a global tech hub and shapes how the neighborhood looks today with contemporary design. It shows how major companies define their presence in the city and influence the urban landscape.

The facility opened in November 2016 and stands prominently in the neighborhood with its modern presence. Visitors can explore the large plaza in front of the building, which is open to pedestrians and offers a good vantage point to view the surrounding area.

The ground beneath this tower once stood roughly 100 feet higher before the regrading project removed the hillside. This hidden history beneath the foundation reminds visitors that today's landscape is the result of one of the city's most ambitious early engineering projects.
