Thomas & Mack Center, Multi-purpose arena in Paradise, Nevada
Thomas & Mack Center is a large indoor venue on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus in Paradise that seats around 18,000 people for sporting events and concerts. The round structure arranges seating across several tiers so all visitors have direct views of the central floor.
The building opened in December 1983 and was named after bankers E. Parry Thomas and Jerome D. Mack, who funded early planning efforts. Since 1985, the annual National Finals Rodeo in December has drawn visitors from across the country to this venue.
Home to UNLV basketball, the arena fills with students and fans who chant and cheer from the stands during game nights. Each December for decades, thousands gather for the National Finals Rodeo, when cowboys from across the country compete over ten days in front of packed crowds.
Visitors find entry points on several sides of the round building, and upper tiers are reached by stairs and ramps. Reserved seating for people with limited mobility is available on different levels, and several food and drink stands line the walkways around the concourse.
In 2007, the NBA All-Star Game took place here even though Las Vegas never had its own team in the league. This fact made the city the first host of the event without a resident franchise.
