Yuzhong District, Administrative district in Chongqing, China
Yuzhong is a district on a peninsula between the Jialing and Yangtze Rivers forming Chongqing's central core with closely packed tall buildings. The area features narrow streets and construction that rises vertically due to limited flat space.
From 1937 to 1945, Yuzhong housed the government of the Republic of China during the war against Japan. This period established the district as a major political center of that era.
The Jiefangbei business district shows how commercial traditions of western China have blended with modern finance. The district is where old trade routes and contemporary business quarters meet and shape how people work today.
Metro lines 1, 2, 3, and 6 cross through the district and connect its neighborhoods to each other. Using these lines makes it easy to move between different parts of this densely populated area.
The location between three rivers forces building upward rather than outward, creating one of the region's most densely vertical urban cores. This constraint shaped how the entire district developed its modern character.
