Unknown Heroes Memorial Square, 位於北京市的紀念建築
Unknown Heroes Memorial Square is a public space in Sijiqing, Beijing, dedicated to those who made sacrifices for their country. The square features engraved plaques with the names of martyrs and sits within the green surroundings of the Beijing Xishan National Forest Park.
The square was created to commemorate heroes who showed courage during difficult periods of Chinese history, particularly undercover agents from the 1950s. It documents over 800 names of those whose identities were kept secret for their sacrifices and contributions.
This memorial honors heroes whose names often remain unknown, particularly those who worked undercover for their country. Visitors come to pay respects and frequently leave flowers at the engraved stones as a gesture of remembrance.
The square is located within a protected forest area and is accessible by public transport or on foot from the adjacent park. The straightforward layout makes it easy for visitors of all abilities to walk and pay their respects at their own pace.
Some of the engraved spaces are intentionally left empty, waiting for names to be added when they are eventually revealed. Visitors view these blank spaces as symbols of hope for reunification and future recognition of those still unknown.
