Hollabrunn District

Hollabrunn District is an administrative area in Lower Austria comprising 24 municipalities, including towns like Retz, Maissau, and Göllersdorf. The region spreads across gently rolling terrain with farmland, forests, and vineyard areas interspersed throughout.

The district was created in 1868 during Austria's major administrative reform, establishing a new governance structure for its communities. This reorganization set the framework that has remained in place ever since.

Wine production shapes the everyday landscape here, with local growers tending vineyards and operating cellars visible throughout the region. This work connects people to the land and forms a core part of local life and identity.

The main towns have train links to Vienna and Krems, making arrival straightforward. An extensive road network connects all 24 municipalities, allowing flexible exploration by car or bicycle.

The area holds the archaeological site of Roseldorf, preserving remains of an important La Tène culture settlement dating to the 4th century BCE. These findings reveal that the land was densely populated in ancient times.
