Chattogram District, Administrative district in southeastern Bangladesh
The district spans over 5,283 square kilometers of diverse terrain, including hills, rivers, forests, and coastal areas with access to the Bay of Bengal.
The district was established in 1829 as an administrative center for eastern Bengal, later undergoing changes that included the separation from Cox's Bazar District in 1984.
The population includes Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists who maintain their traditions through local festivals, regional cuisine, and traditional art forms across fifteen upazilas.
The district capital, Chittagong city, functions as Bangladesh's primary seaport and second-largest urban center, handling most of the country's maritime trade operations.
The Karnaphuli, Halda, and Sangu rivers flow through the district, creating a network of waterways that support agriculture, transportation, and local fishing communities.
