Longhai District, Administrative district in Zhangzhou, China
Longhai is a district in the southeast of Zhangzhou, in Fujian province, China, running from the mouth of the Jiulong River to the shore of Xiamen Bay. Hills and mountains surround it on three sides, while the eastern edge opens onto a flat coastal plain.
Longhai was created in 1960 by merging two older counties, Longxi and Haicheng, which had each been separate administrative units before that. The name of the district combines one character from each of the two former counties.
In Yongjiao, the She ethnic minority community has kept its own language, weaving traditions, and festivals alive over generations. Walking through their villages, visitors can notice traditional house styles and handmade textiles that differ from the surrounding towns.
Zhangzhou Railway Station sits within the district and connects to two high-speed rail lines, making it easy to arrive from nearby cities or continue further along the coast. For visiting rural or coastal parts of the district, having a private vehicle or arranging local transport in advance is helpful.
The highest point, Dajian Mountain, and the lowest point near Jiujiejiao on the coast sit very close to each other geographically, creating one of the sharpest elevation drops found in any district of Fujian. This means that in a short drive, the land shifts from forested mountain slopes to flat fishing villages by the sea.
