Lushan Botanical Garden, botanical garden in China
Lushan Botanical Garden is a large garden on Mount Lu near Jiujiang in Jiangxi province, home to over 5,000 plant species and around 170,000 specimens. The site includes a notable collection of gymnosperms with over 200 species, along with greenhouses for growing and studying sensitive and rare plants.
The garden was opened in 1934 as the first mountain botanical garden in China dedicated to subtropical plants. It was established by three scientists whose legacy is marked by their tombs located within the site.
The garden is organized into 13 distinct sections, each dedicated to a specific type of plant or natural setting. This layout allows visitors to move through different habitats and observe how various plants grow in their respective environments.
The garden features walking paths through quiet routes where visitors can observe plants, take photos, and enjoy fresh air among the greenery. A visit works best for those who want to spend time exploring at a comfortable pace across the different sections.
The site contains two protected cultural tombs: that of Chen Yinke, a respected scholar, and of the three founders who established the garden. These burial sites reflect the historical weight of the place and connect research with remembrance.
