Wulao Peak is the second-highest summit of Mount Lu in southeastern Jiangxi, reaching 1,358 m and facing Poyang Lake to the east. Four sets of horizontal joints, eroded after the uplift of the Mount Lu block, carved the southern flank into five peaks that from afar resemble five seated old men. The fourth peak is the highest and the third the most hazardous.

The five peaks were shaped by the uplift of the Lushan block and erosion along four sets of horizontal joints, leaving five summits that resemble seated old men. Haihui Temple at the foot of the mountain became the local Buddhist centre. In 1933 Chiang Kai-shek set up an officers' training corps 500 m from the temple, with Chen Cheng as education chief and Tang Enbo as a trainee; Japanese bombing left only three of its more than 30 buildings, which housed the Jiangxi Communist Labour University's Lushan branch from 1958.

The name comes from the five summits, which from afar look like five old men sitting upright. Li Bai celebrated the peak in his poem "Gazing at Wulao Peak of Mount Lu", writing of blue sky carving out a golden lotus. Many cliff inscriptions survive, most on the third peak, including Xu Shichang's "Clouds low these days" and Shen Ying's "No obstacle to the eye"; they are protected as Jiujiang municipal relics.

The fourth summit is the highest and the third the most hazardous, so plan the climb accordingly. The peak faces east over Poyang Lake, making sunrise the moment most visitors time their ascent for. Sanjiequan Waterfall lies in the valley to the northeast, and Bailudong Academy sits at the eastern foot of the mountain.

Most of the cliff inscriptions are on the third peak, the most hazardous of the five. They include Xu Shichang's "Clouds Low These Days", Guo Youlong's "Stars Gather on Layered Ridges", Xu Tan's "A Foot and a Half from Heaven" and Shen Ying's "No Obstacle to the Eye". The carvings are listed as Jiujiang municipal cultural relics.
