Donglin Temple

Donglin Temple is a Buddhist temple at the northwestern foot of Mount Lushan, spreading across a large site with multiple buildings and prayer halls. The impressive 48-meter-tall Amitabha Buddha statue stands as the central figure in the complex, framed by architectural elements.

The temple was founded in 384 during the Eastern Jin Dynasty by monk Huiyuan, who established an important center for the Pure Land movement. This early founding made it a significant site in the development of Buddhism in East Asia.

The temple is a major center for Amitabha Buddha veneration, with its name deriving from its founding monk and its halls reflecting Pure Land teachings. Pilgrims and visitors witness daily monastic practices that shape the spiritual life of the place.

The temple features a large flame-shaped sculpture surrounding the Buddha statue, rising more than 80 meters high. This unusual feature creates a visually striking ensemble that many visitors overlook.
