Qitai Radio Telescope, Radio telescope in Qitai County, China

The Qitai Radio Telescope is an observation facility with a 110-meter diameter parabolic dish that is fully steerable and located at 1,800 meters elevation. The equipment can receive frequencies from 150 MHz to 115 GHz, allowing observations of pulsars, star formation, and large-scale radio structures.

Construction of this facility began in September 2022, marking a major step forward in China's astronomical research capabilities. Upon completion in 2028, it will become the world's largest fully steerable single-dish radio telescope.

This site represents China's commitment to advancing scientific research and stands as a symbol of the country's investment in modern observation technology. Visitors encounter a place dedicated to exploring the cosmos through cutting-edge engineering.

The site is located at high elevation in a remote region, so prepare for limited accessibility and infrastructure on the ground. Best conditions for observation occur on clear, dry days when the sky is cloud-free and artificial light is minimal.

The location near Mongolia was deliberately chosen to avoid interference from radio sources in more populated areas. This strategic placement is critical to the sensitivity and accuracy of scientific measurements.
