Yanwu Bridge, Bridge in Siming District, China.
Yanwu Bridge spans roughly 2.2 kilometers across Xiamen Port, connecting the port area with the waterfront street in Siming District. It consists of multiple spans about 26 meters wide, with sections that cross over water and sections that connect the surrounding streets.
Construction began in 2000 and finished in 2001, marking a major step forward in Xiamen's infrastructure at that time. The bridge connected parts of the city that were previously separated, making travel and commerce easier between the port and residential areas.
The twin Strait Towers visible from the bridge are known locally as 'Two Knives' because of their knife-like shapes that stand out against the sky. These distinctive structures have become part of how locals describe their waterfront and its changing views.
The bridge is easy to walk across and provides a direct way to cross the port area or move between districts on foot. Observation platforms are positioned along the route, offering spots to stop and take in views of the bay and nearby islands during your visit.
The bridge offers views of Gulangyu Island, known for its colonial buildings and car-free streets just across the water. Visitors often discover from the observation platforms how the island's layout and architecture stand out from the mainland surroundings.
