Xiamen Botanical Garden

Xiamen Botanical Garden sits on the southern slopes of Yangtai Mountain and houses a diverse collection of tropical and subtropical plants. The layout includes several specialized sections with different vegetation types and botanical collections.

The garden was established in 1960 and gained national recognition when Deng Xiaoping planted a Nepal camphor tree in 1984. This moment marked a turning point in the site's development and importance.

Ancient calligraphic inscriptions from scholars appear on granite boulders throughout the garden, connecting nature with traditional Chinese artistry. Visitors encounter these works while walking and experience how the landscape reflects cultural heritage.

The garden is accessible daily and offers free entry before 7:00 in the morning, which suits budget-conscious travelers well. Walking through the slopes requires proper footwear and stamina for longer routes.

The site houses a rare square-growing bamboo species within its extensive bamboo forest. There are also giant water lilies sturdy enough to support small visitors.
