Szalajka Valley, Natural valley in Szilvásvárad, Hungary.
Szalajka Valley is a forested valley stretching about 4 kilometers through limestone terrain with a flowing stream and cascading waterfalls. The clear water carves through the landscape, creating natural features and scenic points for walking along marked trails.
The valley was developed with a forest railway built in 1908 that still operates today on the historic track. This narrow-gauge railway connects the valley floor to higher elevations and shaped the local landscape.
The Forestry Museum displays equipment and exhibits related to traditional woodland management in the region. Visitors can see how local forests have been sustainably used over generations.
Visitors can take the forest railway uphill to the Gloriett clearing and walk back down through well-marked trails at their own pace. The paths are clearly signed and accessible for most fitness levels.
The Veil Waterfall features distinct terraces where water cascades in layers over limestone steps. These stepped formations developed gradually as minerals in the flowing water built up deposits over many years.
