Chalisgaon, town
Chalisgaon is a town in Jalgaon district, Maharashtra, situated along the Titur River on hilly terrain in the northern Deccan plateau. The town has a busy market area, residential neighborhoods, and a railway station that links it to the wider region.
Chalisgaon grew from a small village into a regional market town thanks to its position along trade routes crossing the northern Deccan. The arrival of the railway in the late 19th century accelerated this growth and drew merchants from surrounding areas.
Ahirani, a regional language spoken around Chalisgaon, is heard alongside Marathi in daily conversations at market stalls and tea shops. Small roadside shrines dotted through the town are regularly visited by locals, especially during morning hours.
The railway station sits near the center of town and is easy to reach on foot from most neighborhoods. Auto-rickshaws are the most convenient way to get around locally, while buses cover the surrounding villages.
The rocky outcrops on the hills around Chalisgaon are known as nesting sites for vultures, making this one of the rare spots in Maharashtra where these birds can still be seen in the wild. Birdwatchers sometimes travel specifically to this area to observe them.
