Kashmere Gate metro station, Metro station in Central Delhi, India
Kashmere Gate is a metro and railway interchange station in the Central Delhi district, where three metro lines meet across several levels above and below ground. The Red Line runs on elevated tracks, while the Yellow Line and the Violet Line operate on underground platforms.
The station opened in December 2002 as part of the first phase of the Delhi Metro network. Over the following years, two more lines were added, turning it into a major junction in the city's rail system.
The station takes its name from a nearby historic city gate that once marked the northern entrance to the old walled city. The gate is still standing and visible a short walk from the station exits.
Each of the three lines has its own entry points, so it helps to check the signs before entering to make sure you head to the right level. Signage is in both English and Hindi throughout the station.
Kashmere Gate is one of the few stations in India where passengers can transfer between three different metro lines without leaving the building. The difference in height between the elevated platform and the deepest underground level spans several floors, making it one of the tallest station structures in the network.
