Chandrashila is the summit above Tungnath temple in Uttarakhand, at about 3,690 metres above sea level. Its top is a rounded, flattened mass of dark grey-black rock, bare on the upper sections, with steep shadowed faces and gullies falling away below. From the summit the Himalaya is visible, including Nandadevi, Trisul, Kedar Peak, Bandarpunch and Chaukhamba.

Chandrashila's religious role comes from two legends: one holds that Rama meditated here after defeating the demon-king Ravana, the other that the moon-god Chandra did penance on the summit. The peak takes its name, "Moon Stone", from this second story. The trek to it passes Tungnath temple, reached after about 3.5 km from Chopta, with a further 1.5 km climb to the top.

The trek starts at Chopta and leads first to Tungnath temple, then continues to the summit. The trail is straightforward to follow, and visitors should prepare for steep sections and changing weather conditions at higher elevations.
