Triyuginarayan Temple, Hindu temple in Rudraprayag district, India
Triyuginarayan is a Hindu temple in the Rudraprayag district of India, located at 1980 meters in the Garhwal mountains. The complex includes a main shrine to Vishnu and four sacred water pools that surround the sanctuary.
Adi Guru Shankaracharya founded the temple in the 8th century. A flame known as Akhand Dhuni has burned continuously inside the sanctuary since then.
According to local belief, celestial beings attended a divine wedding at this spot, with Vishnu acting as the bride's kin. Pilgrims visit the four water pools around the shrine before entering for prayer and offerings.
The approach follows the road from Sonprayag, with the nearest train stations in Dehradun and Rishikesh farther away. Travelers should bring appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear for the mountain setting.
Newlyweds gather ash from the sacred flame and carry it home as a blessing for their marriage. This custom draws wedding couples from many regions throughout the year.
