Paigah Tombs, Noble cemetery in Phisal Banda, India
The Paigah Tombs are a burial complex featuring marble mausoleums with stone lattice screens, detailed carvings, and geometric patterns distributed across multiple acres. The site contains several structures of varying ornamental complexity spread throughout the grounds.
The burial site was established in 1786 when Abdul Fateh Khan, a military commander and nobleman serving the Nizams of Hyderabad, was interred here. This founding marked the beginning of an important family tomb complex for the Paigah aristocracy.
The cemetery displays a blend of architectural styles where Indian, Islamic, French, and Italian influences are visibly woven together in the design. Visitors can observe this cultural fusion in the detailed stonework and geometric patterns carved into the mausoleums.
The site is located about 7 kilometers from the city center and remains open daily for visitors. Local buses and auto-rickshaws provide convenient transportation to reach the location.
The complex houses 35 different types of limestone lattice screens, some remarkably thin. At the Ladli Begum memorial, a terracotta lattice work measures just one millimeter thick.
