Japan National Route 14, National highway in Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
National Route 14 is a 44-kilometer highway connecting central Tokyo with Chiba city. It runs through multiple districts and municipalities across both prefectures.
The route opened in December 1952 and gained the status of General National Highway in 1965. This change was made to handle the growing traffic flow.
The road passes through Nihonbashi, a trading center where five major routes have started since the Edo period. This old commercial district continues to shape how people use the area today.
The route intersects with National Routes 51, 126, and 296, giving direct access to residential and business areas. Keep in mind that the eastern section becomes a toll road.
At Ichinoe Bridge, management of the route splits, and the eastern section becomes the toll-charging Keiyō Road. This transformation marks an unusual shift in the road system.
