Gyeonggi Province

Gyeonggi extends across 10,184 square kilometers of northwestern South Korea, containing 28 cities and 3 counties with Suwon as its administrative capital.

The province name originates from the 18th century BCE and means 'the area surrounding the capital', reflecting its continuous role as a buffer zone around Seoul.

The region maintains numerous heritage sites, including the Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon and multiple royal tombs from the Joseon Dynasty built between 1392 and 1910.

The extensive transportation network includes multiple subway lines and highways connecting Seoul with satellite cities, facilitating daily movement for over 13 million residents.

The northern section borders the Demilitarized Zone with North Korea, while the southern part contains Camp Humphreys, the largest United States military base overseas.
