Gangwon Province

Gangwon Province extends along the eastern coast of South Korea, featuring the Taebaek Mountains that divide the region into coastal and inland sections.

The province split into two parts during the 1945 Korean division, with the southern portion joining South Korea and the northern section becoming North Korean territory.

The International Mime Festival in Chuncheon and the Gangneung Dano Festival display traditional performances, music, and regional customs throughout the calendar year.

The province contains seven cities and eleven counties, with Chuncheon serving as the capital and Wonju functioning as the largest metropolitan area.

The region produces most of South Korea's potatoes and maintains two major river sources: the Hangang and Nakdonggang, which supply water across the country.
