Jeju Province

The province consists of Jeju Island and 62 smaller islands spread across the Korea Strait, with Mount Halla rising 1,950 meters above sea level.

The Tamna Kingdom established the first civilization on Jeju between 8,000 and 10,000 years ago, later becoming a tributary state to various Korean kingdoms.

The haenyeo women divers of Jeju maintain a centuries-old tradition of harvesting seafood without breathing equipment, representing the island's matriarchal heritage.

Jeju City in the north and Seogwipo in the south serve as main transportation hubs, connecting visitors to waterfalls, volcanic sites, and coastal attractions.

The province received special autonomous status in 2006, gaining over 4,660 types of authority from the central government for independent policy decisions.
