Diorama, Miniature park in Kaatsheuvel, Netherlands
Diorama is a 60-meter display case showcasing detailed model landscapes where miniature trains, vehicles, and tiny figures move about. The scenes feature cities, castles, and churches spread across hilly terrain, complete with recreated roads and continuously running model trains.
This work was created in 1971 to mark an important anniversary of the nearby amusement park and was designed by a renowned Dutch artist. Since then it has remained a permanent installation, preserving the art form of miniature model making.
The display features replicas of buildings from different periods of Dutch history, ranging from modest houses to grand churches and civic structures. The scenes offer insight into how people lived and worked across various regions.
The space is divided into different themed scenes that use special lighting to show day and night effects. If you want to see all the details, take your time and observe the moving elements, as there is much to discover.
Real water flows through the miniature rivers in the model landscapes, giving the display an unexpected sense of life. The tiny inhabitants are shown engaged in various everyday activities, from work to leisure.
