Chitral valley

Chitral stands at 1517 meters elevation along the Kunar River, surrounded by snow-covered peaks of the Hindu Kush mountain range.

The city functioned as the capital of an independent monarchy until 1895, when British forces incorporated it into their Indian Empire.

The Kho people constitute the main population group in Chitral, speaking Khowar language and maintaining strong traditions in polo competitions.

The Lowari Tunnel provides year-round vehicle access to Chitral, connecting the city with Dir and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The agriculture in Chitral produces specific mountain crops including wheat, walnuts, grapes, and mulberries at different elevation levels.
