Liseberg, Amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden
Liseberg is an amusement park in Gothenburg, Sweden, with more than 30 rides, entertainment stages, dance halls, and restaurants spread across a large site in the city center. The grounds cover several levels and combine modern roller coasters with classic carousels and green spaces for relaxing.
The site was originally called Lisa's Mountain and was turned into an amusement park in 1923 for the 300th anniversary of Gothenburg. Since then it has grown with new rides and venues that made it a fixture of Swedish leisure culture.
The name comes from a hill dating to 1752, and today families visit for seasonal festivals that follow Swedish traditions. Christmas markets offer regional foods, while summer concerts and Halloween celebrations fill the grounds with music and costumes.
The number of parking spaces nearby is limited because of ongoing construction work in Gothenburg, so arriving by public transport is recommended. The site is centrally located and well connected by tram and bus.
The wooden roller coaster Balder was voted the world's best wooden coaster by specialist magazines in 2003 and 2005. Its track follows the natural hills of the old site and creates an especially fast ride.
