Kremenchuk Reservoir

Kremenchuk Reservoir is a large body of water on the Dnieper River that spreads across Poltava, Cherkasy, and Kirovohrad Oblasts. The water covers around 2,250 square kilometers with an average depth of about 6 meters.

Construction of the dam began in 1959 and required relocating 23 communities, including Kryliv and Novoheorhivsk, to make room for the growing water body. This reshaping of the land left a lasting mark on the region.

Fishing has shaped the daily life of communities here for generations, and the ports in Cherkasy and Svitlovodsk remain active hubs of work and local identity. Boats and their crews are woven into how people think of this place.

The water is quite shallow, so visitors should move carefully and watch the bottom conditions when entering. The best access points are from the ports or marked shoreline areas where local services and guides are available.

The Sula River flows in to form a delta system with multiple islands that creates unusual ecological diversity. This natural structure draws birds and other wildlife, making it a special spot for observing nature.
