Mount Luigi di Savoia, Mountain peak in Bugoye, Uganda.
Mount Luigi di Savoia is a mountain peak in the Rwenzori range featuring multiple summits connected by a ridge system. The peak has several subsidiary points that create diverse climbing routes and varied terrain across the massif.
The peak was named after the Duke of Abruzzi, an Italian explorer who studied the Rwenzori range in the early 20th century. This mountain stood apart as the sole major summit in the range that the Duke did not visit during his explorations.
Local communities support mountain activities through guided tours and environmental protection initiatives within the Rwenzori Mountains National Park.
The northern approach from Freshfield Pass offers a less strenuous climbing option compared to alternative routes. This pathway takes climbers through different elevation zones and requires solid physical preparation.
This peak was the first among the six central Rwenzori mountains to lose all of its glacial ice cover. The disappearance of its ice masses marks a notable transformation visible across the range.
