Ali Amjad's Clock

The clock tower stands 7.4 meters tall and 5.1 meters wide near the Keane Bridge, featuring a large timepiece with two-foot-long hands and a two-and-a-half-foot diameter.

Nawab Ali Ahmad Khan of Prithimpassa established the clock tower in 1872, naming it after his son Nawab Ali Amjad Khan, and completed construction in 1874.

The clock tower appears in a traditional local poem alongside other Sylhet landmarks, reflecting its integration into the community's daily life and identity.

The Sylhet City Corporation maintains the clock mechanism through regular repairs and updates, ensuring accurate timekeeping for residents and visitors throughout the year.

During the 1971 Liberation War, the Pakistan army destroyed the clock house, but subsequent restoration efforts by the Sylhet municipality returned it to operation.
