Groß-Gerau

Groß-Gerau is a district in southern Hesse between the Rhine and Main rivers, encompassing fourteen municipalities spread across approximately 450 square kilometers. The area combines residential towns, industrial zones, and rural settlements into a connected region.

The region grew from Gerauer Mark in the 10th century and was later ruled by the counts of Katzenelnbogen before becoming part of Hesse around 1479. This change marked a shift in political boundaries that shaped the area for centuries afterward.
