Groß-Gerau, Administrative district in Hesse, Germany
The district includes fourteen municipalities across 453 square kilometers of land between the Rhine and Main rivers in southern Hesse.
The region originated from Gerauer Mark in 910, later controlled by counts of Katzenelnbogen before becoming part of Hesse in 1479.
Each municipality within the district maintains its own traditions and festivals, representing different aspects of Hessian life and community practices.
The district connects directly to Frankfurt International Airport and contains multiple industrial zones, including automobile manufacturing facilities in Rüsselsheim.
The district reaches its highest point at 145 meters above sea level near Mörfelden on a former garbage deposit site.
