Hexenturm, Medieval tower in Walberberg, Germany
The circular tower reaches a height of 18.30 meters with an outer diameter of 8.60 meters and walls measuring 2.20 meters thick.
Built in the second half of the 12th century, the structure served as a residential and defensive tower for the Lords of Holtrop until 1388.
The tower's construction utilized stones from a Roman aqueduct that passed through Walberberg, incorporating local materials into medieval architecture.
The five-story tower stands behind St. Walburga cemetery and remains closed to interior visits, allowing only exterior observation.
The name 'Witches Tower' first appeared in documents from 1817, derived from 19th-century romantic tales rather than actual witch persecutions.
