Gebirgsbahn, Steel roller coaster in Phantasialand, Brühl, Germany.
Gebirgsbahn was a steel roller coaster that extended approximately 979 meters and reached a height of about 28 meters. The track featured tunnels and presented a twisted hill helix configuration.
The ride began operation in 1975 and was initially called Bobbahn 1. In 1976 it received rock theming to reduce noise for neighboring residents.
The ride was designed as a traditional mountain railway experience and attracted families seeking moderate thrills without extreme elements. Its name and rock theming anchored the attraction in the idea of an Alpine journey.
The ride was equipped with five trains, each containing five cars with a total of twenty seats. This configuration allowed for high hourly capacity.
An electrical short circuit caused a fire on May 1, 2001, resulting in complete destruction. The fire also destroyed the adjacent Grand Canyon Bahn in the same incident.
