Temple of the Night Hawk, Enclosed roller coaster in Phantasialand, Brühl, Germany
Temple of the Night Hawk is an enclosed roller coaster at Phantasialand in Brühl, housed entirely within a windowless building. The installation covers a track length of 3851 feet and rests on underground concrete pillars that support the ride experience in near total darkness.
This attraction opened in April 1988 under the name Space Center and presented a futuristic space theme at that time. A thematic redesign took place in 2001 with a renaming to adjust the appearance to match developments in neighboring themed areas.
The name suggests a nocturnal adventure through an artificial temple landscape where riders move in near darkness. The ride combines speed with an opaque environment where only occasional illuminated figures and scenes emerge from the shadows.
The ride lasts approximately four minutes and passes through several lift sections located in complete darkness. Visitors sensitive to abrupt directional changes or rides without visual reference points should consider this beforehand.
The construction occupies a volume of 120000 cubic meters and ranks as the second longest enclosed roller coaster worldwide. Three separate trains operate simultaneously and reach speeds up to 47 kilometers per hour (29 miles per hour).
