Maus au chocolat, Interactive dark ride at Phantasialand, Brühl, Germany
Maus au Chocolat is a dark ride at Phantasialand where visitors board small vehicles for four people and travel through a 159-meter track. During the roughly six-minute journey, guests use virtual pastry bags to shoot at digital mice displayed across 42 projection surfaces.
The attraction opened in June 2011 as a collaboration between ETF Ride Systems, 3DBA, and Alterface. This project brought together technology and storytelling to create an interactive experience that modernized dark ride concepts.
The story takes place in 1920s Berlin and follows master pastry chef Gustav E. Lehmann and pest controller Oskar Koslowski dealing with a mouse infestation in their kitchen. Visitors experience this tale through colorful scenes that feel like stepping into an old bakery with a rodent problem.
Visitors must be at least 90 centimeters tall to ride this dark ride. The vehicles move at a manageable pace during the journey, making it accessible for families and those new to interactive attractions.
The ride features an innovative shooting system that lets guests immediately see the results of their shots on the screens. The game concept with changing targets means each ride plays out differently, keeping repeat visits interesting.
