Mortuary complex of Pepi I, Pyramid mortuary complex in Saqqara, Egypt

The limestone pyramid stands 42 meters tall in southern Saqqara, featuring a mortuary temple, valley temple, and smaller pyramids for royal queens.

Built between 2324-2292 BCE during the reign of Pepi I, the first ruler of Egypt's 6th dynasty, under supervision of vizier Inenek-Inti.

The walls contain 2,263 columns of hieroglyphic pyramid texts discovered in 1880, providing instructions for the pharaoh's journey through the afterlife.

The underground chamber system includes passages connecting to a white limestone burial chamber that housed the pharaoh's sarcophagus.

Nine additional pyramids belonging to Pepi I's queens surround the main structure, including the pyramids of Ankhesenpepi II and Behenu.
