Pyramid of Senusret III, Ancient royal pyramid in Dahshur, Egypt.

The Pyramid of Senusret III is a smooth-sided royal tomb made of limestone and mudbrick that dominates the northern section of Dahshur. The structure has a base of roughly 105 meters, with interior passages accessible through a western entrance that lead downward into granite-lined chambers.

This pyramid was constructed for Pharaoh Senusret III of the 12th Dynasty, who ruled more than 3,800 years ago. The project represented a shift in how Egyptians built pyramids and introduced techniques that influenced royal architecture for centuries afterward.

The site reflects how royal family members were buried in close proximity, sharing a mortuary landscape that honored their status. Visitors can observe how queens and princesses were positioned within the complex, showing the importance of family in the afterlife beliefs of this era.

The western entrance descends through narrow corridors where comfortable shoes and a flashlight are helpful for navigation. The passageways are confined in places and require stooping, so being physically comfortable with tight spaces works best for exploring the interior.

Valuable jewelry discovered in the adjoining royal tombs at the end of the 1800s provides rare insight into the craftsmanship and wealth of the era. These artifacts, now in museums, show the level of detail and precious materials used in royal burials of this period.
