Laodicea on the Lycus

The site extends across limestone hills and contains a stadium, two theaters, bath complexes, and numerous religious structures built in Roman architecture.

Founded in the 3rd century BC by Antiochus II of the Seleucid Empire, Laodicea developed into a major commercial center at crossroads of trade routes.

The city produced high-quality black wool textiles and operated a medical school, which developed treatments for eye conditions and physical ailments.

Visitors can access the archaeological site through the city of Denizli, with excavation areas open daily from sunrise to sunset throughout the year.

The ruins reveal an advanced water system with clay pipes and distribution terminals that supplied the entire ancient metropolis despite limited water sources.
