Aragatsotn Province

Aragatsotn Province is an administrative region in western Armenia characterized by hilly terrain and scattered rural villages. The landscape features mountains and agricultural land interspersed throughout the settlements.

The region was reorganized in 1995 when four earlier districts were combined under one administration. This change created a unified territory to improve administrative coordination and development.

The region is shaped by Armenian traditions and customs in rural communities. People here live in close-knit settlements where local practices and family bonds structure everyday life.

The main administrative center is located in the city of Ashtarak, which coordinates regional services. Most villages are relatively small and located in valleys or on hillsides, requiring patience when exploring.

The name refers to the proximity to Mount Aragats, Armenia's highest mountain. This geographical connection shapes the region's identity to this day.
