Witches' Cave, Limestone cave in Malargüe Department, Argentina.

The cave system extends across 4.5 square kilometers within a provincial reserve, featuring limestone formations, stalactites, and stalagmites at 1,830 meters elevation.

The cave formed during the Cenozoic Era when underground water currents eroded Jurassic sedimentary rock during the emergence of the Andes mountains.

Local inhabitants share stories about two white women who sought refuge in the cave and were said to transform into owls according to regional folklore.

Visitors must schedule guided tours to access the first 200 meters of the cave system, wearing helmets and using provided lamps for navigation.

The cave contains specialized fauna adapted to darkness, including spiders and springtails, with water pools and oil deposits influencing its geological development.
