Soro Mik'aya Patjxa

Soro Mik'aya Patjxa is an archaeological site in the Lake Titicaca Basin with one primary cultural layer divided into multiple excavation areas. Human remains discovered here include skulls with evidence of ancient burial practices.

The site dates to approximately 8000 to 6700 years ago and documents early hunter-gatherer communities of the Andean highlands. This period precedes the emergence of agriculture in the region.

The site reflects burial customs that were widespread in ancient Andean communities, including intentional skull modifications found in pit graves. These practices offer insight into the beliefs and social habits of the region's earliest inhabitants.

Genetic analysis of an ancient male from this location revealed direct connections to present-day Quechua and Aymara peoples of the Andes. This finding directly links the site's earliest inhabitants to modern Andean communities.
