Caballo Muerto, Archaeological complex in Laredo District, Peru
The Caballo Muerto complex contains eight U-shaped mound structures built with stone and mud mortar across 600 hectares of land.
The site was discovered in 1972 by archaeologist Michael E. Moseley from Harvard University during the Chan Chan-Moche Valley Project exploration.
The Huaca de los Reyes features mud sculptures depicting creator deities and ancestral cultural heroes, representing the mythology of ancient inhabitants.
Located 3 kilometers northeast of Laredo and 20 kilometers from Trujillo, the site can be reached through established transportation routes.
The complex includes the Huaca Herederos Chica, which contains historical occupation layers spanning 1000 years with multiple construction phases.
