Southeast Region, Administrative region in Brazil
The Southeast Region encompasses four states: Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo, covering 924,511 square kilometers of Brazilian territory.
The region gained prominence in 1763 when Rio de Janeiro became Brazil's capital, primarily due to its strategic location for exporting gold from Minas Gerais.
The Southeast Region contains three of Brazil's largest cities - São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Belo Horizonte - which form the country's main cultural centers.
This region maintains extensive transportation infrastructure, including major international airports in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, connecting Brazil to global destinations.
The Southeast generates approximately 60% of Brazil's GDP and produces the largest worldwide quantities of coffee, sugarcane, oranges, and papayas.
